AN OPEN LETTER TO CONGRESSMAN SENSENBRENNER:
Congressman Sensenbrenner, I recall when you addressed the U.S. Senate, introducing the impeachment resolution you had insistently urged and supported in your then capacity as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
Your rationalization of your “leadership” of that unnecessary and shameful impeachment action, as opposed to your blocking, over the last five years, of any investigation of the current Administration, to hold it accountable for gross and continuing violations of law and of the U.S. Constitution, is convoluted and, simply ridiculous.
Senator Feingold, at that time, voted to censure President Clinton for lying in public about sexual transgressions. By comparison, Congressman Sensenbrenner, your inflexibly partisan loyalty to your “Party” and to the current Administration at this time, even to the exclusion of your oath to defend the Constitution and the laws of the land, is contemptible.
I support House Resolution 333 calling for the impeachment of Vice President Richard Cheney. I also support the impeachment of George W. Bush. As your constituent, I am writing to insist that you and the rest of the House of Representatives carry out your constitutional duties to defend the Constitution of the United States. It is unconscionable that the House has obstructed an open discussion of the activities of the President and Vice-President. This administration has taken this country into a criminal and unjustified war and occupation, is threatening to start a new war, and has violated the constitutional rights of the American people. It is time for the House to fulfill its constitutional obligations in response to these and other impeachable offenses.

Good luck on getting Sensenbrenner’s ear, Clyde. He is good at only one thing: pulling the wool over the eyes of the voters.
Example: In his town hall meetings he railed against CAFTA as a jobs killer and almost got standing ovations. Then he voted to pass it! What he says publicly to the voters does not match his votes in congress.
He is a total loser, and must be removed from office.

They have unnecessarily gotten our country into serious danger. The consequences of their ill-conceived invasion are already damaging us (just think of the exhorbitant ongoing cost in dollars, not to mention death and disfigurement) and will continue to haunt us for a long time.

What is really sad is that he will probably easily win re-election in 2008. I grew up in fairly affluent part of the 5th district and I get the sense that most of my neighbors either don’t know or don’t care about the ugliness of the (invasion and occupation of) Iraq and the Patriot Act.
The 5th district is the richest in the state. Given the economic background of our military, it’s likely that most Sensenbrenner supporters don’t have sons and daughters in the military. They don’t have a stake in all this and so it’s easier for them to just ignore the bad news. Maybe they only read about the Packers. Far worse, they buy into the dangerous belief that defeating Islamic fundamentalism is a simple battle of good vs. evil and the correct way of neutralizing fundamentalism is being “soft on terrorists.”

The only drawback of going to Sensenbrenner events is that it gives him even more visibility and public notice. Supporting and publicizing our own causes, events, and people might be better in the long run than coming out for Sensenbrenner’s.
The only advantage of coming to Sensenbrenner’s events is that we realize we are not alone in disapproving of his votes and stands and his lack of true leadership and ethics.
